What we collect
Account information
We collect your email address when you create an account, request a sign-in link or subscribe to job alerts.

When you create an alert, we may collect:
- keywords and job titles
- job category
- employment type
- suburb or location
- pay preferences
- alert frequency
- whether you have told us you found work.
Application information
When you apply for a job through Cairns Jobs, we may collect:
- your name
- email address
- phone number
- resume or CV
- cover letter or message
- answers to employer screening questions
- the job you applied for
- the date and time of your application.
You should not include tax file numbers, banking passwords, account login details or other unnecessary sensitive information in an application.
Site activity
We may collect information about how Cairns Jobs is used, including:
- jobs you view or save
- searches you perform
- categories, suburbs and filters you select
- pages visited
- links clicked
- whether you tell us you found work
- IP address
- browser and device information
- login, security and error logs.
When you are not signed in, we do not intentionally connect your searches with your Cairns Jobs account. Technical information such as an IP address may still be recorded in ordinary server and security logs.
Employer information
For employer accounts and job listings, we may collect:
- business and trading names
- ABN or other business verification information
- business description
- employer logo
- website and social-media links
- business location
- contact names and details
- job-listing information
- application and billing records.
Information included in a public employer profile or job listing will be publicly visible.
Payment information
Where you purchase a Premium Listing or another paid service, payment may be processed by a third-party payment provider.
Cairns Jobs may receive transaction details, payment status and limited billing information. Where the payment provider processes the transaction directly, Cairns Jobs does not receive or store your complete card number.
How we collect information
We collect information:
- directly from you when you use Cairns Jobs
- when you apply for a position
- when an employer posts a job
- through cookies and ordinary server logs
- through messages or emails you send us
- through payment, hosting, security, email and analytics providers
- from publicly available business information where reasonably necessary to verify an employer or listing.
Why we use it
We use personal information to:
- create and manage accounts
- provide passwordless sign-in
- deliver job alerts
- match alerts with relevant listings
- save jobs and searches
- send applications to the relevant employer
- operate employer profiles and job listings
- process Premium Listings and other purchases
- provide customer support
- detect spam, abuse, scams and fake listings
- protect the security of Cairns Jobs
- understand what roles, industries and locations Cairns job seekers are searching for
- improve the website and its features
- comply with legal obligations
- investigate complaints or misuse.
We may use automated systems to match job alerts and recommendations with your saved preferences and search activity. These systems do not decide whether you are interviewed, employed or accepted by an employer.
Job applications and employers
When you apply for a job, Cairns Jobs sends your application information to the employer responsible for that listing.
The employer will be identified on the listing or application form before you submit your application.
The employer receives its own copy of the information and becomes responsible for how that copy is handled. Employers agree under our Terms of Use to use application information only for legitimate recruitment purposes, keep it secure and not add applicants to marketing lists without separate consent.
Cairns Jobs does not control every action taken by an employer after the application has been provided to them. You should review any privacy information supplied by the employer and contact them directly regarding information they hold.
We do not give employers your saved jobs, private searches, alert preferences or other account activity merely because you viewed their listing.
Other disclosures
We may provide personal information to:
- the employer whose position you apply for
- hosting, database and file-storage providers
- email-delivery providers
- analytics and website-security providers
- payment processors
- contractors who help operate and support Cairns Jobs
- professional advisers
- regulators, courts, police or government authorities where required or authorised by law
- another owner if the Cairns Jobs business is sold or transferred, subject to appropriate privacy protections.
Service providers may only use information as necessary to provide their services to us, subject to their contracts, privacy terms and applicable laws. Cairns Jobs staff and service providers may technically access resumes and application information where necessary to operate, support or secure the platform.
We do not sell personal information or provide it to data brokers.
Overseas processing
Some technology providers may store or process information outside Australia. This can include providers used for website hosting, email delivery, backups, security, analytics, file storage and payment processing.
Our website and database hosting is provided by Hetzner in Singapore. Email is delivered through Amazon Web Services in Australia. Payments are processed by Stripe, which may process information in the United States. Provider locations may change as their infrastructure is updated.
Job alerts and emails
We send job alerts when you have subscribed to them.
We may also send service-related emails, including:
- requested sign-in links
- application confirmations
- account and security notices
- important changes affecting a service you use
- responses to support requests.
We do not add applicants to unrelated marketing lists merely because they applied for a job.
Every commercial or job-alert email will include an unsubscribe option. Unsubscribe requests will be processed as soon as practical and within the period required by law.
Cookies and analytics
We use essential cookies and similar technologies to:
- keep you signed in
- protect accounts and forms
- remember necessary preferences
- operate website features
- prevent fraud and abuse.
We may use privacy-focused analytics to understand overall traffic and website performance.
We do not currently use third-party behavioural advertising trackers or sell browsing information to advertisers.
Should our use of analytics, advertising pixels or tracking technologies change, we will update this policy and provide any notices or choices required.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from loss, misuse, interference, unauthorised access, modification and disclosure.
Measures may include:
- encrypted website connections
- access controls
- restricted administrative access
- one-time sign-in links

No online system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Where applicable, we will assess and respond to data breaches and notify affected people and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner when legally required.
Storage and retention
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably required for the purposes described in this policy, including security, dispute resolution and legal obligations.

- ordinary security and server logs may be retained for up to 90 days
- payment and transaction records may be kept for the period required by accounting and taxation laws.
After these periods, information may be deleted or de-identified.
Aggregated or de-identified statistics that no longer identify an individual may be retained to understand local employment demand and improve Cairns Jobs.
